Sebastian Fundora wins a Unanimous Decision against Tim Tszyu in all out bloodbath to capture the Wbo & Wbc Junior Middleweight titles.
Tszyu sustain an enormous cut in the head due to an accidental elbow which blood would stream down constantly which eventually and unfortunately impaired his vision thru out the course of the 12 round contest. Tszyu Cutman, Like Fundora Cutman, was working profusely to stop the bleeding for each of their fighters, yet the constant jab which Fundora kept displaying and landing had other plans and that was to keep the blood faucet open.
The heavy criticism thru out Sebastian Fundora career has been that at 6’6 Southpaw Enigma, he usually fights to the height of his competition which makes his job harder than what it should by not using his God given enormous height and advantage compare to his contemporaries, and display the jab and distance and commanding range which he showcased Against Tim Tszyu. In the past Fundora Always found a way to put himself in the type of fire fight his advantages shouldn’t allow him to.
Both contestants had 12 days to prepare for this contest. Tszyu was suppose to fight the former Welterweight Champion Keith Thurman yet due to a bicep injury, Thurman had to pull out from the fight. Credit Tszyu in accepting Fundora as a last minute replacement, but got to hold Tszyu’s team accountable for being overly confident to suggest it was a good idea to accept Fundora as a last minute replacement considering due to Fundora’s frame and already a difficult opponent to prepare for even with 10-8 week training camp, to suggest that it was a good idea to accept that type of challenge without a rematch clause. Matter of fact scratch the 12 days preparation because “fight week” both fighters stop training. So Tszyu truly had under one week to prepare for the Towering Inferno and of course Fundora had to prepare for Tszyu. But we can honestly say it’s easier to find many that can mimic Tszyu, Yet is none that can mimic Fundora for preparation.
Tszyu didn’t need to take that type of risk with the momentum and future plans that was in front of him. Tho the boxing fans appreciate the guts of Tszyu for taking the fight in such a short notice yet the question will be. Was it a smart decision from a managerial standpoint?
Hopefully Team Fundora would do the honorable thing and grant Tszyu a rematch even tho it seemed PBC had other plans as we seen former Unified Welterweight Champion Errol Spence crash Sebastian Fundora post fight interview. Which Fundora Promoter declared that a Spence fight would be next in Dallas.
